Apple's smart watch, the Apple Watch, has an important role in fitness and health technology for its users. Mainly thanks to its sensors and health features, there are many stories that the Apple Watch has helped many users become healthier and even save lives.
Reportedly, there are plans that Apple wants its smartwatch to be more than just a medical device. Apple also has a vision that the Apple Watch can replace things that everyone carries like wallets and keys.
This was revealed when Apple did an interview with Yahoo Finance, where Deidre Caldbeck Director of Apple Watch Product Marketing explained that there are some changes that Apple will make with watchOS 8.
"This is kind of our vision to eventually replace the physical wallet where you just have everything you need, right on your wrist," Caldbeck said.
"WatchOS 8 itself was announced at the WWDC 2021 event earlier this month and some features include being able to store a digital ID in the Wallet application, like a SIM," he continued.
Kevin Lynch Apple VP of Technology also added that users will be able to have this feature in the Wallet application.
"Users can see their ID there just like your other cards. And then you can show it if you choose, for example, TSA," he said.
This feature looks cool, but of course there is a drawback where if the user loses the Apple Watch or even the device is damaged, it will definitely be a hassle as well.
