Windows 11 brings many new features that can improve gaming performance on PC. Since these features are a derivative of the Xbox, PC performance is promised to be on par with a gaming console.
At the Windows 11 launch event, CVP Game Creator Experience and Xbox Ecosystem Sarah Bond even called this new operating system the best Windows for gaming. He promises that these features will bring superior graphics, fast performance, and a variety of game options.
Windows 11 users can now play more games thanks to the new Xbox app integrated with the operating system. With this app, users can access Xbox Game Pass and can play hundreds of PC games.
Not only that, players who have subscribed to Xbox Games Pass Ultimate can also access the Xbox Cloud Gaming game streaming service. Therefore, devices running Windows 11 can play the latest console games over the web.
Windows 11 will offer two other gaming features, namely DirectStorage API and Auto HDR. Both of these features first launched on Xbox Series X and S.
Auto HDR was introduced in Windows 10 through the Windows Insider Program a few months ago. This function automatically adds high dynamic range (HDR) enhancement to standard dynamic range (SDR) games, provided the game is made using DirectX 11 or higher.
Bond says more than 1,000 games — including Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, Rocket League, DayZ, and Doom 64 — will soon appear in better graphics on Windows 11 devices that support HDR. Of course, this feature can only be used on a PC that is already connected to a screen that supports HDR.
Finally, there is DirectStorage which is also a derivative of the Xbox Series X / S. This feature takes advantage of NVMe SSD performance to load game assets directly to the graphics card so that loading times can be significantly reduced.
"Windows 11 PCs with optimized DirectStorage are configured with the necessary hardware and drivers to enable this incredible experience," said Bond.
Windows 11 will be publicly launched at the end of the holiday season next year. Windows 10 users can install Windows 11 for free as long as the device specifications meet the requirements.
In addition to the above gaming features, Windows 11 brings many improvements such as a simpler interface, Windows Store with a new look, better performance and multitasking experience. This operating system is also promised to be more efficient and more battery efficient.
