Missing Features in Windows 11

The newly launched Windows 11 brings many new features. Along with this, there is also bad news that a number of iconic features and applications have been removed from this operating system made by Microsoft.
One of the applications released is Internet Explorer. The legendary browser that has been a part of Windows since 1997 is no longer to be found in Windows 11. And, Windows 10 is the last browser to have Internet Explorer.

"The Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will not be available on Windows 11. Microsoft Edge is the default browser for Windows 11," said a Microsoft spokesperson, as quoted from The Verge, Sunday (6/27/2021).

This is actually not surprising, as Microsoft will indeed shut down Internet Explorer on June 15, 2022. When the unofficial version of Windows 11 leaked on the internet, there was no Internet Explorer appearance in sight.

Once Windows 11 is released to the public this coming holiday season, the only available default browser will be Microsoft Edge. If you use a shortcut like iexplore, the user will also be redirected to Microsoft Edge.

Windows users who still need Internet Explorer for old web applications can use the IE Mode feature in Microsoft Edge which will open the website in the appropriate rendering engine to work properly.

This is the first time Microsoft has not included Internet Explorer in Windows in more than 20 years. This browser was first released in 1995, but was bundled with Windows in 1997 with the release of Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2.5.

In addition to Internet Explorer, Microsoft will also remove and marginalize some features and applications. Like the smart assistant Cortana that will be removed from the taskbar and will no longer guide the user when he first activates the device.

The Skype video conferencing app has also been released and must be downloaded first from the Microsoft Store. OneNote, Paint 3D and 3D Viewer applications are also not part of Windows 11 when first installed.
