India uses drones to distribute vaccines

It is believed that the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine using drones will greatly help the distribution of these necessary supplies to remote areas. This is what India is doing until the vaccine reaches remote areas.
HLL Infra Tech Services Limited, on behalf of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) expressed its readiness to help deliver medical supplies in the form of vaccines or drugs using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) aka drones in certain locations in India.

The company said the ICMR will involve UAV operators to operate beyond visual line of sight out of site (BVLOS) on pre-determined or pre-approved fixed flight paths to deliver the COVID-19 vaccine. This has also outlined the procedure for interested parties to submit it.

Quoted from Hindustan Times, HLL has given the specifications for the required UAVs. According to the company's records, the drone must be able to travel an air distance of at least 35 km at a vertical height of at least 100 meters, take off vertically and carry a load of at least 4 kg, and be able to return to the original base.

Meanwhile, e-commerce company Flipkart said on Friday that it has partnered with the Telangana government for drone delivery of COVID-19 vaccines and other essential supplies by drone in remote parts of India. Before launching the "medicine from the sky" project, a six-day Telangana pilot project was done.

"Using drones to deliver health supplies to people in remote and inaccessible areas is a unique initiative ever undertaken in our country and we are happy to lead this initiative in collaboration with partners like Flipkart," said Jayesh Ranjan, Head Telangana government secretary.

He added that this will greatly test best-in-class technology solutions to overcome future crises.
