With so much wealth, it's only natural that Bill Gates doesn't manage all the hundreds of billions of dollars himself. The confidant he appointed to handle it was a man named Michael Larson.
Michael's name appeared in connection with the divorce of Bill Gates and his wife Melinda, where the intricacies of their property were discussed a lot. In Bloomberg's search, Michael for three decades turned out to have the main task of keeping Bill Gates' wealth safe from the public spotlight.
Not long ago, the Bill and Melinda Gates Investments organization led by Michael changed its name to Cascade Asset Management Co, due to the divorce. Inside is a similar body, Cascade Investments where Bill Gates' funds are managed for various investments.
Michael has been trusted by Bill Gates since the 1990s. Bloomberg, estimates that the value of Cascade's investment has reached USD 170 billion. Well, one of Michael's jobs is to keep Bill Gates' image as a humanitarian alive.
"Part of Michael's job is to help Bill Gates maintain his image as a rich man committed to solving the world's challenges rather than making headlines," Bloomberg wrote.
Not long ago, 61-year-old Michael was also in the news because he was said to have created a culture of creating fear and harassment among employees. The New York Times interviewed several former Cascade officials and obtained mixed information about him.
"Larson judged employees based on their attractive appearance and on several occasions made sexually inappropriate comments. He also made racist remarks to black employees," the New York Times said of Bill Gates' senior man.
"He bullied others. When an employee said he was leaving Cascade, Larson responded by trying to damage the stock price of the company the employee was affiliated with," Bill Gates' organization added.
In a statement, a Cascade spokeswoman objected. "During his tenure, Larson supervised more than 380 people and a total of less than 5 complaints were directed at him. Each complaint was investigated seriously and none made Larson eligible for removal," he said.
