More and more countries and institutions are trying the Corona vaccine combination. Will the world follow this path?
Combined Corona vaccine means using a different vaccine for the first and second injection. This is to overcome the situation of so many variants of Corona and the lack of vaccines.
As seen on Saturday (10/7/2021), CNN summarized the experience of 4 countries that have implemented a mixed or combined Corona vaccine policy. The 4 countries are Germany, Dominican Republic, Canada and England.
1. Germany
CNN reports that Germany through the German Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) on Thursday has recommended a combination of Corona vaccines. German citizens who received the AstraZeneca vaccine for the first injection, are recommended to use the mRNA vaccine for the second injection.
It is known that mRNA vaccines are Pfizer and Moderna. STIKO says the latest test results show the immune response from this combination Corona vaccine is better.
2. Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic on Thursday also announced that it will begin a third injection to fight a new variant of the Corona virus that has emerged. This third injection will be different from the first 2 injections.
The Dominican Republic uses 3 Corona vaccines, namely Sinovac, Pfizer and AstraZeneca. This third injection will use a combination of the 3 available vaccines, depending on which vaccine the Dominican Republic citizen previously used. If previously injected 2 times with Sinovac, then the injection was either Pfizer or AstraZeneca.
3. Canada
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization in Canada in June recommended that the mRNA vaccine be considered as a second shot for those who had their first shot with the AstraZeneca or COVISHIELD vaccine.
"There is emerging evidence of a potential for better immune responses with this combination vaccine schedule," the commission said.
4. English
The UK is conducting research through a number of separate research institutions. Interim results show that people who received the combination of the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines had a better immune response.
Research that has been published in the Lancet medical journal says there are also side effects that require attention as a result of this combination vaccine. Some experience fever, aching pain, fatigue and headache. Fortunately these side effects are short lived and not considered a problem.
That is the experience of 4 countries implementing a combined or mixed Corona vaccine. Will the world follow the same path?
