The richest man in the world, Jeff Bezos, will soon fly into space. Seeing this, Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai admitted that he was jealous.
The Bezos mission into space will be launched on July 20, aboard the New Shepard rocket built by his company, Blue Origin. He will fly with his brother Mark, senior pilot Wally Funk and the auction winner who has paid $ 28 million for the flight.
Amazon founder will follow Richard Branson, who flew into space last weekend using a Virgin Galactic -made rocket. Bezos did announce his flight in advance, but he was overwhelmed by Branson.
Seeing many millionaires racing to fly into space, Pichai admitted to being jealous. In an interview with BBC Amol Rajan, Pichai said that he also wanted to enjoy the view from space.
"Yes, I'm a little jealous. I want to see the Earth from space," Pichai said, as quoted by The Independent, Tuesday (13/7/2021).
Unlike Bezos, Branson or other technology companies, Pichai and Google have no plans to develop rockets or space tourism.
Alphabet, as Google’s parent company, prefers to focus on a higher atmosphere through the Loon project. The project aimed to spread the internet using giant balloons, but unfortunately the project was canceled in early 2021.
In addition to Bezos and Branson, other millionaires who are also involved in space flight are Elon Musk and his company SpaceX. In fact SpaceX is considered more successful because it has several times sent astronauts to the space station.
