PS5 and Xbox Series X Resale, 16-Year-Old Gets USD1.7 Million

Since launching late last year, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X have been rare items to find. The shortage of PS5 and Xbox Series X was then exploited by many people by hoarding and reselling the consoles at higher prices.
One of the people who took advantage of this situation was Max Hayden, a 16-year-old teenager from the United States. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Hayden admitted that he earned USD 1.7 million from the sale of PS5, Xbox Series X and rare Pokemon cards.

It should be noted that the USD 1.7 million figure is the amount of income Hayden earned from sales for 18 months. Even so, the profit he collected was quite large, namely USD 110,000.

As quoted from GameRant, Tuesday (6/7/2021) Hayden sells PS5 and Xbox Series X for USD 1,100 per unit. Although the official price of these two consoles is USD 500.

Due to the difficulty of finding the PS5 and Xbox Series X at official retailers, many gamers are willing to pay more to be able to own these two latest consoles, especially now that the catalog of games on offer is growing.

In addition to selling PS5, Xbox Series X and Pokemon cards, Hayden also admitted to selling shoes and other items that are hard to come by these days.

Sony and Microsoft as makers of the PS5 and Xbox Series X are also aware of the rarity of these consoles in the market, and worsened by hoarding.

PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan also revealed that Sony is frustrated with PS5 hoarders and resellers. Ryan also said Sony will continue to work with retailers to ensure that available PS5 stock can reach consumers directly.

PS5 and Xbox Series X stock problems are not only affected by hoarders and bots, but also by the chip shortage experienced by many industries. As the chip shortage is expected to continue into next year, gamers who have been waiting to get their hands on the PS5 and Xbox Series X will have to be more patient.
