Microsoft distributed a pandemic bonus of USD 1,500 to its employees, which is known from an internal memo distributed to its employees.
This bonus is given for Microsoft's achievements in a unique and challenging fiscal year due to the COVID-19 outbreak that they managed to overcome.
The bonus was later announced by Kathleen Hogan, Microsoft's Chief People Officer, who said that this bonus will be given to all Microsoft employees, both in the United States and in other countries, with a level below corporate vice president, including part-time employees.
Microsoft currently has 175,000 employees worldwide, but employees under LinkedIn, GitHub, and ZeniMax - a company acquired by Microsoft - are not included in the category of bonus recipients.
In total, the money spent by Microsoft to provide this bonus is worth around USD 200 million, or less than Microsoft's profit in two days.
For information, in March, Microsoft recorded annual revenue of USD 41.7 billion with a profit of USD 15.5 billion. This income recorded the largest growth since 2018, increasing 19.9% compared to the previous year.
Other technology companies that also gave bonuses to their employees in 2021 are Facebook, which gave a bonus of USD 1,000 to its 45,000 employees, and Amazon, which gave a holiday bonus of USD 300 to its frontline workers.
In addition to giving bonuses, Microsoft has also donated more than $98 million to non-profit organizations in the state of Washington since the beginning of the epidemic, and is committed to making an additional $60 million donation starting this July.
Since the outbreak began, Microsoft has posted at least $160 billion in revenue, most of which comes from its cloud services business, which has skyrocketed in revenue, as well as laptop sales and an increase in Windows users.
