The success of British millionaire Richard Branson into space at Virgin Galactic opened the era of space tourism. Former US President Donald Trump also commented that it happened because of his services.
Currently, at least three wealthy people are involved in the space industry. In addition to Branson with Virgin Galactic, there is the richest man in the world Jeff Bezos who owns the company Blue Origin and of course Elon Musk with SpaceX.
Trump says the space race is likely because during his reign, many rocket runway facilities were reopened and so on. He says that the private sector involved in the space business is facilitated because of this.
"I let them do it. I said to the public, let the private sector do it. Those people come in with billions of dollars. Let them rent facilities because they need certain facilities to fly rockets and we have them," Trump said.
"So I said, if Elon wants to build a rocket, let him do it. We're going to charge him rent. Let people do it. I don't believe we're going to see it the old way," Trump said.
Trump also mentioned that during his administration, a sixth armed force was created, the Space Force, which aims to address threats in outer space.
"We're very proud of that. Before it became the Air Force, now there's the Space Force, which is going to be very important. We not only made it but also very great," Donald Trump said.
