China has recently been interested in developing a variety of Corona vaccines. Even China's state-owned media, Global Times, reported that the country has researched and developed 71 types of Corona vaccines.
Zhong Nashan, an infectious disease expert in China, said the vaccine was effective against the Delta Corona variant. China is also claimed to be the country with the largest number of Corona vaccines developed in the world.
If later approved, the vaccine will be used to meet domestic needs or requests from abroad. Research is also being done to find new vaccine technology against future pandemics that may be more severe than COVID-19.
9 of the 71 vaccines have been used by the public. Two Corona vaccines have been approved by the WHO for emergency use, namely Sinovac and Sinopharm which have been used by various countries.
Zhong claims that the Chinese vaccine with inactivated technology is effective in reducing transmission rates and severe symptoms, as well as in overcoming the now prevalent Delta variant.
Feng Duijia, president of the China Vaccine Industry Association, claimed that no other country has developed more Corona vaccines than China. Additionally, it is not impossible to use other vaccine technologies such as mRNA used in Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
"Having 71 coronavirus vaccines that are currently in the process of research and development makes China the country with the largest number of vaccines being developed," he said.
Newly discovered technology can also be used to strengthen vaccines for other diseases such as AIDS and influenza. Zhong stressed that the Corona pandemic cannot be fully controlled and the world needs to work together closely to truly win against Corona until life returns to normal.
