Crypto mining usually consumes a lot of electricity. In the United States, there will be crypto mines built in nuclear power plant complexes.
The mine will be built by a U.S. energy company called Talen Energy, which will build a data center and nuclear mine inside the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station complex in Pennsylvania.
During development, the power plant will be able to generate 164MW of electricity, and when completed, its capacity will increase to 300MW. Electricity is generated from two 1 + GW nuclear power plants fitted with two independent substations.
"The facility will provide low, reliable, and carbon-free electricity to on-campus data center customers. This allows customers to benefit from the 24/7 available carbon-free electricity that is supplied directly without the interruptions that typically occur in renewable energy. , or need fossil fuels, ”Talen Energy said.
Recently, the impact of crypto mining on the environment has come to the attention of many people. One was after Tesla confirmed that it would no longer accept payments via bitcoin, as it was considered environmentally damaging.
Then more and more companies implement mining with carbon -free electricity, one of which is Energy Harbor Corp., which just signed a five -year partnership with Standard Power, which supplies electricity from a nuclear plant to a bitcoin mining center in Coshocton, Ohio starting next December.
Several other alternative sources of electricity are sought for crypto mining, including hydroelectric to volcanic.
