After a series of leaks, Samsung has finally released the Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G. While the information provided by the leak is correct, that doesn’t necessarily diminish the appeal of this folding screen handset, as the improvements it brings are very important for consumers.
At least that’s the effect we felt when we tried the Galaxy Z Fold 3 even if only for a moment. It seems that Samsung really listens to the demands and expectations of its loyal users.
Therefore, this handset is a must -have not only for Galaxy Z Fold 2 owners, but also loyal Galaxy Note users. There are several reasons summarized in the following hands-on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
1. waterproof
Not a few people mock Samsung because of the Galaxy Z Fold 2, but it’s not waterproof. This is quite understandable, as consumers have already paid for the mobile phone but are still careful using it.
Fortunately, Samsung managed to innovate the Galaxy Z Fold 3 waterproof. It should be commended that the research team only needed less than a year to find a way out so that this handset could pocket the IPX8 certificate.
We’ve tried the water splash, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is still good. Not satisfied with that, we tried soaking it to see its durability and the result was no problem.
Made waterproof, Galaxy Z Fold users are free to move anywhere. You can make a video call by the pool, or stream a video while soaking in the bathtub.
2. More Comfortable to Hold
Although only a few millimeters and grams of difference from its predecessor, we felt the difference. The Galaxy Z Fold 3’s slimmer and lighter body makes it comfortable while holding it.
Dimensions: Galaxy Z Fold 2
When Closed 159.2 x 128.2 x 6.9 mm
When Opened: 159.2 x 68 x 13.8-16.8 mm
Weight: 282 g
Dimensions: Galaxy Z Fold 3
When Closed 158.2 x 128.1 x 6.4 mm
When Opened: 158.2 x 67.1 x 14.4-16 mm
Weight: 282 g 271 g
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 also feels more powerful than its predecessor, so we dare to shut down this handset. Opening the main screen cover is better than the Galaxy Z Fold 2. All of that eliminates the feeling of ‘fear’ when using a fold -screen handset.
3. S Pen
It’s a shame if the screen is so wide just for multitasking, so Galaxy Z Fold 2 users are hoping Samsung gives S Pen support. And that hope is given in this Galaxy Z Fold 3.
While using the S Pen on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, it’s a lot of fun to write on real paper, either taking notes or making sketches. The stylus also helps navigate.
We love the feature that converts handwriting into text. Combined with Flex Mode, users can make group video calls while taking notes directly on the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Little information to provide S Pen support, Samsung provided a special coating on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 screen. So that its durability remains intact despite being often used for writing. The South Korean tech giant claims the toughness of the main screen is 80% stronger than before.
Samsung presents a special S Pen for the Galaxy Z Fold. We even managed to use the S Pen Pro which can be used on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and other Samsung devices, such as the Galaxy Note and Tabs.
Next Camera Under the Screen
4. Camera below the screen
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the first Samsung phone to use a bottom -screen camera. Sometimes its presence is still visible to the eye, although the hidden camera makes the screen cleaner in view.
Although only measuring 4 MP, the camera picture below the screen is quite clear with no effect of fog.
5. Other features
Multitasking on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is getting better. In addition to still being able to open three applications side by side, Samsung presents a task bar like the one we find on computers. Its presence makes it easy to open applications simultaneously.
The screen quality is more pleasing to the eye thanks to the colors presented, the crease area is not very clear when enjoying the video content. Unfortunately we have not tested stereo speakers that have Dolby Atmos support.
Also, we haven’t had time to test the quality of the rear camera and performance of this Snapdragon 888 -powered handset. All of that will be discussed in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 review, stay tuned
