Intel is said to control the majority of TSMC's 3nm chip production capacity, to produce three new CPUs and a GPU.
If true, this move certainly threatens AMD and Apple, which also depend on TSMC to manufacture their chips.
This will certainly be an advantage for Intel, because it reduces the number of chips that can be produced by AMD and Apple. Even now, AMD is having a hard time finding a 'ration' to produce its GPU and CPU chips that use the 7nm process at TSMC,
Because most of its production capacity has been allocated to produce PS5 and Xbox Series S and X chips.
TSMC is said to be producing 3nm chips starting in Q2 2022, and mass production starting in mid-2022. Its production capacity is expected to reach 4,000 wafers by May 2022, and will eventually reach a maximum capacity of 10,000 wafers per month.
A report from UDN states that Intel will use TSMC's services to produce 3nm chips in the 18b Fab for four of its products, namely three CPUs and a GPU.
However, it is possible that the CPU that will be produced is not a consumer product, but the next generation Xeon, which is a processor for servers and data centers.
Intel actually has its own chip factory and provides services to other companies such as Qualcomm and Amazon, to use that production capacity as part of the IDM 2.0 initiative.
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger also previously announced that Intel will build a chip production facility worth USD 120 billion which will be the size of a small town. The location itself has not yet been determined, but it will certainly be located in the United States.
