Trillions of Crypto Money, This Hacker Was Offered a Position

Recently, there was a cryptocurrency breach at the Poly Network company. Unmitigated, the amount stolen by the hacker reached USD 610 million or in the range of Rp. 8.8 trillion. In a recent development, the hacker was even offered a job.

The position offered is also quite high, namely Chief Security Adviser at Poly Network. Previously, Poly Network had also promised him a reward of USD 500 thousand for his success in finding security holes.

"Poly Network has no intention of taking Mr White Hat (as the hacker is called) legally and inviting him to be Chief Security Officer, and $500,000. Whatever he will do with that money, we don't mind," the company said on Twitter.

The hacker, whose identity has not been revealed or is not yet known, has returned some of the money he stole. But so far, there are still around USD 200 million in locked accounts and need a password to open them.

"We are continuing to work on an understanding with Mr White Hat and hope he will send the private key as soon as possible so that we can return full control of cryptocurrency assets back to the user.

The person who claimed responsibility for the theft said that they did it just for fun and looking for security holes before being exploited by others. It is claimed that it was planned from the beginning to return the digital coins they transported.

"I'm not really interested in money," he said. However, experts believe that there is another reason for the return of the assets, namely because of confusion about how to cash it out. In addition, Poly Network had threatened to take legal action and the hacker would be pursued.

"Even if you can steal cryptocurrency assets, laundering them and cashing them out is extremely difficult due to blockchain transparency and the widespread use of blockchain analytics by financial institutions," said Tim Robinson, analyst at Elliptic.
