PS4 to PS5 Upgrade No Longer Free For Sony Exclusive Games

Jim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, revealed that PS4 and PS5 exclusive title upgrades are no longer free. In the future, a fee of USD 10 will be charged.

"This also applies to God of War and the subsequent Gran Turismo 7 and other PS4 and PS5 cross-generation exclusive titles, which will be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment," Ryan wrote.

Unfortunately, not all gamers agree with the decision taken by PlayStation. The account bs4mykneemiss, shares his opinion that the prices are about the same and should be free.

"So the more expensive edition doesn't have the cassette, even when there is a SteelBook version? Are you kidding? That's how you lose sales of that edition, at least from me," wrote The Big Boss2027 account in the comments column.

However, this seems to be a better alternative. Compared to fans having to buy new games, if they want to play on a different console.

Like the recent incident, which had disappointed fans, regarding the new title Horizon Forbidden West. It was previously reported that the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn did not get free access to the upgrade from PS4 to PS5.

Even so, Sony finally listened to the fans' criticism and made it free. However, the thing to remember is that the free upgrade is only valid for Horizon games, not for PlayStation exclusive games in the future.

Meanwhile, it seems that gamers have to allocate more funds if they want to play PS5 games. Shawn Layden, former PlayStation boss, explains that the development costs are double the cost of each platform.

For example, the budget for PS4 games is USD 100 million. Meanwhile, work on the PS5 reached USD 200 million.
