Jeff Bezos announced a $1 billion grant this year to those with solutions to Earth's climate crisis. On the other hand, he mentioned that nature and the Earth are in a fragile condition.
In 2020, the owner of the Amazon, who is the world's richest person, said in total it would provide a $10 billion reward for activists, scientists or groups working to fight climate change, through the Bezos Earth Fund.
Coincidentally not long ago, Jeff Bezos shot into space on a Blue Origin rocket with three other crew members. He also saw the full view of the Earth and its environment for about 4 minutes when the plane was hovering in space.
"Nature is our life support system and it's fragile. I was reminded this past July when I was in space with Blue Origin. I heard that seeing Earth from space could change one's view of the world, but I wasn't ready to experience how true that is, " he said.
This year, the focus of the grant is for conservation efforts to protect nature, particularly in the Central African region, the Andes region and the Pacific Ocean. Jeff Bezos said the world must return to health as in the past. It has not been explained who the candidates for the grant are.
"Nature is no better today than it was 500 years ago, when we could enjoy undisturbed forests, clean rivers and clear air in pre-industrial times. We can and must reverse this anomaly," Bezos added.
Jeff Bezos himself has retired as CEO of Amazon and only oversees the online store giant in the chairmanship position. Now he focuses on working at Blue Origin as well as in issues of Earth's climate change and the environment.
