iPhone 13 Makes Apple Overthrow Xiaomi

Once in the third position of the world's largest mobile phone vendor because it was overtaken by Xiaomi, Apple has now regained the ranking. The arrival of the iPhone 13 made sales growth quite significant. While Samsung is still calm in the first rank.

The report is based on the results of research compiled by the Canalys research bureau for the third quarter of 2021 or from July to September.

A total of 325.5 million smartphones were shipped during that time period. This means that there is a decrease of 6% from the previous year. The biggest reason is the scarcity of chips for which no efficacious solution has yet been found.

Samsung shipped a total of 69.4 million smartphones, still number one despite a 13% decline. Apple is in second place, helped by the strong performance of the iPhone 13 and the still best-selling iPhone 12. They shipped 49.2 million units with a 14% increase.

Xiaomi, which fell in third place, shipped 44 million smartphone units. Followed in a row by Oppo with 36.7 million units and Vivo in fifth place with shipments of 34.2 million units.

"Samsung is once again the leading cash vendor, shipping 69.4 million units for a 21% market share. Apple regained second place with the launch of the iPhone 12, shipped 49.2 million units and grew 14 percent," said Canalys.

Lex Cuan Chiew, analyst at Canalys, said the iPhone 13 posted strong initial sales and is expected to continue. Especially for those whose iPhones are old, the iPhine 13 is a capable upgrade.

In addition to the iPhone 13 factor, Apple is also quite aggressive in providing discount prices for the iPhone 12. So it's not surprising that they posted a good performance in the third quarter of 2021 even though the problem of chip scarcity still lurks.
