Before the TikTok scene appeared, in 2014 there was a similar application that was similar and had a hit in its time called Dubsmash. Now his fate is at the end of life.
By the time TikTok was gaining popularity, many companies wanted to create short video services. Including Reddit which in 2020 acquired Dubsmash to rival TikTok.
After the acquisition, the Dubsmash app remained separate from Reddit. However, there is a tool that is integrated into Reddit, besides that users can also link the link.
But unfortunately Reddit announced that the Dubsmash app in February 2022 will no longer be available on the Android or iOS app stores. Because this application will be turned off.
Even so, Reddit's ambition to rival the popularity of TikTok is still there. Instead, Reddit will integrate Dubsmash features into its own app.
"Since joining, the Dubsmash team has been working to integrate their innovative video creation tools into Reddit - with the goal of empowering Reddit creators themselves to express themselves in original ways that are authentic to our community." said Reddit.
This means that instead of users using Dubsmash as a standalone app, they now only need to use the Reddit app if they want to continue using its features.
This move is also Reddit's way of attracting new users to its platform. Reddit has also announced that there will be many new features and Reddit-exclusive lenses available to users.
