The Pixel 6 Fingerprint Sensor Is Slow, This Is What Google Says

One of the things that the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro has criticized a lot for is its slow fingerprint sensor. Google also spoke about this problem.

Some think this is because Google uses old-school technology, namely using an optical sensor instead of an ultrasonic sensor.

There are also those who think that this optical sensor is of low quality, because there are many other flagship phones that use optical sensors but can still detect fingerprints quickly.

But according to Google, the slow fingerprint recognition on the Pixel 6 is not due to this. Through the Twitter account @madebygoogle, they answered a user's complaint about the slowness of the fingerprint sensor.

Google says this happens because of the higher security algorithm in the Pixel 6 fingerprint sensor. According to them, the technology makes the sensor take longer to recognize fingerprints, it also requires greater contact with the user's finger.

In that post, Google also provided a link to the Google support page, which did little to explain the problem, except suggesting that users should make sure their fingers are clean before using the fingerprint sensor, and make sure that they are using a finger whose fingerprint was previously registered.

The post was also enlivened by many replies from other users. Most of them said that it happened because of a hardware problem, namely the use of an optical sensor and not an ultrasonic like in the Galaxy S21.

Meanwhile on Reddit, many users are comparing the optical fingerprint sensor on the Pixel 6 to other phones, like the OnePlus, which can still recognize fingerprints quickly.

But clearly, the fingerprint sensor on the Pixel 6 is integrated with the phone's motherboard. That is, if the fingerprint sensor is indeed a problem, the repair will certainly be very difficult, except to replace the motherboard.
