Claims of the Sun Can Suddenly Disappear Shook Netizens

What would happen to Earth if the Sun suddenly disappeared? How long can we live in the dark? Just imagining it has made netizens excited.

TikTok users reacted hysterically in response to a discussion on the New Scientist site that said the Sun could suddenly disappear and send Earth flying through space.

A video on TikTok features some conjecture on the question "what would happen to Earth if the Sun disappeared?" on the New Scientist forums. One of them states that the Earth will not be completely dark for eight minutes, the time it takes for its light to reach us. This sparked fears that we would not notice the disappearance of the Sun during those eight minutes.

In fact, glaring signs that the Sun is disappearing will likely include a dramatic drop in temperature, making survival on Earth impossible.

Quoted from the Daily Star, Scottish influencer LittlestChicken responded sarcastically to the video.

"I just saw that video? And someone said that if the Sun disappeared, we wouldn't notice it for eight minutes. And even then we knew it wouldn't matter, because we'd be thrown straight into space, thrown until Earth found a new star for thousands of years. years," he wrote.

Another commented, "So when it happens now and by the time I post this TikTok, we're going to be doing it in space. This app should stop worrying me."

Expert Dharmendra Bhatia, from India, explained the New Scientist report, saying that if the Sun suddenly disappeared, there would be a significant drop in temperature that would make it difficult for creatures on Earth to survive.

"Since the Sun is the center of gravity in our solar system, the loss of the Sun will result in temporary anarchy among the remaining bodies, and after several collisions, the system may find a new center," he said.

"If Earth is lucky enough to avoid getting caught in this collision and not just fly off into space, Earth may start rotating around a new center."

Meanwhile, David Collins from Hertfordshire, England responded to this question on the New Scientist forum by saying, it depends on what is meant by "disappearing".

"If the Sun were still there, but simply stopped emitting light and heat, we would still be in orbit. The entire Earth would be in permanent darkness, the air and oceans would retain warmth for some time, but all life would eventually freeze to death." he said.
