Not only a place to send email, the Gmail application now has capabilities that make it easier for users to conduct meetings and video calls.
This means that users no longer need to download separate applications such as Google Meet for meetings, because these applications are already available as one in the Gmail application.
"As some teams start returning to the office, while others remain distributed, we hope this makes it easier to connect with your colleagues in the hybrid world of work." Google said.
"This feature will allow you to seamlessly switch between chat to video or audio calls when needed, helping you collaborate and advance your work." he continued.
Previously, Google had already allowed Gmail users on the web to start meetings with Google Meet and chat with other users using Hangouts within the Gmail interface.
So it's no wonder a similar feature will now be available in the Gmail app. This capability will be available in the near future for iOS and Android app users.
Keep in mind that currently, Google says that this feature will only work for 1:1 sessions, so if you want to have a meeting or group call, you'll have to use a different dedicated app for that.
