Instagram Releases Take A Break Feature to Help Users Take a Break from Social Media

After being announced some time ago, Instagram has finally released the 'Take a Break' feature. As the name implies, this feature will remind users who have been playing Instagram for too long to take a short break.

Users can activate this feature via the Settings menu in the Instagram app, then choose when to get a reminder to take a break: after 10 minutes, 20 minutes or 30 minutes. Instagram users are then advised to take a breath, listen to music, check to-do-lists, and so on.

Especially for teenage users, Instagram will display a notification that will remind them to activate this feature. Currently, the Take a Break feature is only available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, and will be rolled out to all users starting early next year.

In addition, Instagram has also released several other security features aimed at teenage users. One of them is a tool for parents that can help them monitor their children's Instagram accounts.

Through this feature, parents can view and manage the time their children spend on Instagram. Meanwhile, teen users have the option to notify their parents when they report someone else's account.

Instagram is also testing experimental features that help users control activity on their accounts. This feature allows users to delete photos and videos that they have uploaded, as well as likes and comments they have made.

Instagram says this feature will be useful for teen users or young adults who want to eliminate their online activities while still young. This feature will be available to all users in January, as quoted from Engadget, Thursday (9/12/2021).

Starting next year, teen users will also be able to block unknown adults from tagging or mentioning their accounts, or submitting their content to Reels Remixes and Guides. This is an extension of Instagram's privacy feature that prohibits adults from sending DMs to teens who don't follow their accounts.

Finally, this Meta-owned application will also restrict more sensitive content that can be viewed by teenage users. Instagram is also developing tools that will encourage users to explore other topics if they've been looking at a topic for too long.
