The Amazon rainforest is one of the lungs of the world which has a very important role for this planet Earth. Well, some scientists make a grim prediction, that the Amazon forest, located in Brazil, is threatened with collapse in the near future.
As quoted by us from Futurism, it is possible that the Amazon forest will be transformed into a dry savanna in just about 5 years.
This was confirmed by Luciana Gatti, a senior climate researcher at the Brazillian National Institute for Space Research. He said that the Amazon was indeed close to the threat of a total environmental disaster unless anticipatory steps were taken quickly and appropriately, especially by the government.
"This Amazon forest will soon collapse. We are already in an emergency situation, so we need to act now. This is a nightmare," he said.
Gatti is one of 200 experts who recently took part in an investigation into the Amazon forest, the Science Panel for the Amazon. Their report, which has been released, identifies several factors that make the Amazon forest collapse quickly.
The main trigger is the increasing global air temperature related to the phenomenon of climate change and the rampant deforestation of the Amazon forest. This is a recipe for changing the environment there into a savanna with dry grass, no longer a forest that has been known to people.
Because time is very limited, the scientist recommends that action should be taken immediately, at least by banning all attempts to clear the Amazon forest. In addition, it is necessary to replant trees so that the deforested part of the forest can also be recovered.
