The earth we live on is dying. Several events are signs that Earth is on the verge of collapse. Is the apocalypse near? The answer, no one knows for sure. But if there is a beginning there may be an end.
For 4.543 billion years of life, here we summarize some of the previous news, here are some signs that the Earth has suffered enough and threatens the lives of the creatures that live on it -- humans, plants and animals.
1. Extreme climate change
The Earth we live in is predicted to experience an increase in temperature of 2.7 degrees Celsius. The prediction is based on a report from the United Nations Climate Change Convention. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres also admitted distraught and called the increase in temperature as a major disaster.
If you're thinking 'ah, it's only 2.7 degrees, how come you're panicking', think again. Guterres said Earth would be uninhabitable with a temperature increase of 2.7 degrees Celsius. Because every increase in temperature, even if only 1 degree can affect life.
2. Megathrust
Megathrust can be explained by dividing the name, 'Mega' means big, while 'thrust' means push. The impetus here is the upward motion of the fault which can cause earthquakes and tsunamis, although that does not mean that all cause tsunamis.
The expert's tweet from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Daryono has previously stated that the government must watch out for Megathrust. Confirmed by us, he also describes the real steps of the alert.
"It's the lightest but the context is alert, it is preparing concrete mitigation by creating earthquake-resistant buildings, arranging coastal spaces, installing signs and making evacuation routes and evacuation/drilling exercises. This is the implementation of the alert," he explained.
3. The sinking land
There are already Betet Island and Gundul Island which have sunk. Jakarta and other areas are under threat. The disappearance of the two islands is due to sea level rise -- which is also the impact of Earth's warming.
Geodesy and geomatics researcher from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) Heri Andreas said the possibility of rising sea levels is not only experienced by Jakarta and the northern coast of Java Island but also the eastern coast of Sumatra, Kalimantan and southern Papua.
4. Pandemic
Pandemics usually -- coincidentally or not -- usually happen once every 100 years. But some experts predict that there will be another pandemic besides COVID-19 that will be present in the world. So, be prepared.
