A video of an animal at a zoo in Australia has caught the attention of netizens. The video shows a two-headed and three-eyed lizard that has gone viral.
Quoted from the Daily Mail, Friday (12/3/2021) the video of the strange animal was shared by Jay Brewer, founder of Reptile Zoo in California, United States, through his Instagram account. Brewer, who has more than 5.7 million followers, often shares photos and videos of rare reptiles.
"One in a million, one in ten million," he said to describe how rare the animal was, pointing out the lizard's three eyes.
However, it seems that only the two eyes on the left and right are working. While the third eye, which is located in the middle between the two heads, does not appear to be functioning normally.
This lizard is named Lucky. The team at Australian Reptile Park in Somersby, Australia, discovered this lizard two years ago. Lucky also turns out to have a blue tongue.
While blue tongue lizards are common in Australia, Lucky's deformity makes him special. These lizards also receive the best care from the experts at the Australian Reptile Park.
Some experts recommend that the lizard be released so that it can live in the wild. However, Australian Reptile Park officials said they were concerned the animal might not survive and be unable to defend itself due to its deformity.
Brewer explains that the reptile uses its two heads to eat food. However, Lucky needs help and must be given special care until he can learn to eat on his own.
The blue-tongued lizard is known to be non-venomous, and is the largest member of the lizard family. When threatened, they use their blue tongue as a defense mechanism to scare off predators. They use their tongues to make their bodies flat and appear larger.
