Apple AirPods are the most popular true wireless stereo (TWS) earphones in the world. In the coming months, Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a new generation called AirPods Pro 2.
Apple is slowly adding some Pro features to non-Pro AirPods models. To ensure that the Pro model packs unique features to differentiate it from other models, Apple has several new features currently in development.
The Cupertino-based tech giant has filed a new patent application for a feature in the Airpods Pro, entitled 'Interrupt for noise-canceling audio devices' which is basically an automatic transparency mode.
With this feature, users can determine in advance when the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) feature should be paused. For this, the user can set the feature to be interrupted by one or more predefined contacts, identified by the electronic device or via verbal commands, either through voice recognition or trigger words.
This means that the Active Noise Cancellation feature will remain active for AirPods Pro but when the user makes contact with someone in the contact list that is allowed to interrupt, the earphones will switch to Transparency Mode.
This feature will not be limited to other contacts. Of note, the patent will also be able to recognize important sounds such as police or ambulance sirens, or smoke or fire alarms, and those sounds can also be set as triggers to switch Transparency modes.
Reporting us from Gizmochina, Wednesday (1/26/2022) this patent was originally filed by Apple last year in July, there is no guarantee that the feature will make its way to the AirPods Pro in the near future. The patent filed is just an indication that Apple is working on developing the feature.
The AirPods Pro 2 is expected to officially launch in the fall of this year, along with many other Apple products. There are rumors that these TWS earphones come with a changed design and new health-related features.
