A very loud mysterious booming sound was reported to be heard by many residents in the New Orleans area, United States. Some residents even reported on social media that the explosion had shaken their house.
As quoted by us from the Independent, there are also those who stated that such a boom was not the first time, it had also happened about a month ago.
"I heard a loud bang and our house shook. When I left the house, two of my neighbors were also looking for the source of the sound. What's going on in New Orleans?" said a netizen.
"Half of New Orleans seemed to hear that loud noise that shook the house, including mine. And no one knows what it is," wrote the next netizen.
There are also those who report that the windows of their houses vibrate. New Orleans County Police confirmed that they had received several reports of the mysterious booming sound, but so far the origin of the sound is unknown.
Some suspect that the sound came from the fall of a meteor, but it has not been confirmed. NASA also has not provided a statement regarding this incident.
"We're hours away from the sound, but there's no official report yet. The most popular theory by far is that it probably came from the sonic boom of a meteor that hit the region. But why isn't NASA tracking it?" said Dr Robert Collins, professor of urban studies at Dillard University.
Some netizens stated that the boom was similar to the sound produced when a SpaceX rocket launched into space.
"I heard a mysterious banging sound that shook the walls of our house. I felt it in my body, my chest, it felt like it was coming from underground. It was a disturbing and scary sound," said a resident named Peralta.
