The Omicron variant of the Corona virus continues to explode in number in the United States until it is at a fairly worrying stage. Anticipating this development, Google issued a new policy, namely the obligation to have a Corona test every week for employees who work in the office.
In an email that has been sent to employees, Google's Health Chief, Karen DeSalvo, stated that anyone who comes to a Google office or facility must prove that they are Corona negative.
Not only that, they must also report their vaccination status and use a reliable mask when they are in the Google office.
"The Omicron variant has become the dominant strain in the United States and is highly contagious," DeSalvo wrote to Google employees, quoted by CNBC.
"There has been a significant rise in infections across the country and hospitals are being overwhelmed with Covid patients, reducing their capacity to care for others," he added.
Google has also become one of the most aggressive technology giants in efforts to ward off the Corona virus, where they require employees to carry out the necessary policies. Even last month, Google was rumored to be firing employees who did not want to be vaccinated against Corona.
"As we've stated before, our mandatory vaccinations are one of the most important ways we can keep employees safe and keep our services running," said Lora Lee Erickson, a Google spokesperson.
"We are committed to doing everything we can to help our employees get vaccinated, and we will stick with our vaccination policy," he added.
