Call of Duty players on PlayStation don't have to worry about losing their favorite games after Activision Blizzard was acquired by Microsoft. Activision said they would still be releasing at least three new Call of Duty games for the PlayStation.
This is certainly good news for fans who are worried that Microsoft will make the new Call of Duty game an Xbox exclusive. The Bloomberg report said Activision had committed to bringing several new Call of Duty games to PlayStation before the Microsoft acquisition was announced.
This latest report confirms Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer's announcement last week that Microsoft would not be pulling Call of Duty from PlayStation and they would honor their existing deal with Sony.
Currently, there are three Call of Duty games that are planned to be released for PlayStation, namely the new Modern Warfare game from Infinity Ward which was released this year, the new Call of Duty game from Treyarch, and the new generation of battle royale game Call of Duty: Warzone. The Verge, Thursday (27/1/2022).
But the process of acquiring Activision by Microsoft will still have a long way to go, because with a fantastic dowry of USD 69 billion, regulators in the United States will definitely not stand still. That is, the fate of the Call of Duty game franchise is still uncertain.
Microsoft is expected to complete this acquisition process in financial year 2023, which will begin on July 1, 2022 and end on June 30, 2023.
Sources familiar with the deal say Microsoft will honor its commitment to releasing a Call of Duty game on PlayStation every year. But once this acquisition is complete, Microsoft will reconsider the future of this game series.
Looking at Microsoft's track record when it comes to acquiring game developers, they always take a different approach. For example, when they acquired Bethesda they made Starfield an exclusive game for Xbox and PC. On the other hand, Minecraft remains available for many platforms.
