Samsung has re-introduced smart household devices, aka smart homes, with unique features. This time, the South Korean tech giant launched the Family Hub, a smart refrigerator that carries a tablet-sized screen on the front.
Thanks to its smart screen, Family Hub can provide additional features such as entertainment and connectivity with other smart home devices.
"What is the main function of the refrigerator? Keeping food fresh, lasts longer. In addition to these basic functions, we have other functions such as family communications, easier cooking, entertainment, and connected home," said Melvin at the launch of the Samsung Family Hub in Jakarta. , Thursday (27/1).
Melvin said the Samsung Family Hub refrigerator could be a medium of communication for family members. With the whiteboard and Memo features that can be accessed via the screen, Family Hub can replace the tradition of leaving post-it and messages on the refrigerator door so that the kitchen still looks neat.
There is also a Calendar feature that can synchronize the schedules of all family members. This feature can already support Google Microsoft Outlook service.
Samsung Family Hub can also help users become smarter in cooking thanks to the Smart Recipe, Meal Planner, and Shopping List features. Interestingly, this refrigerator is equipped with a camera inside that can be accessed via the View Inside feature, so users can monitor the contents of the refrigerator directly from their cellphone.
This refrigerator can also provide entertainment in the kitchen with the integration of the Spotify application that can be accessed on the screen. Users can also use the available browser to access YouTube, or mirror the phone screen using the Smart View application to access the streaming platform.
As a smart home device, the Samsung Family Hub refrigerator can also be connected to other smart home devices that already have Wi-Fi support, ranging from air conditioners, TVs, to air purifiers. Everything can be accessed and controlled via the SmartThings app.
Samsung positions this refrigerator as a smart assistant in the kitchen. For that they buried the support of the Bixby voice assistant into this refrigerator.
This smart screen runs Samsung's Tizen operating system. Melvin said that currently users cannot install new applications and can only use existing applications, but it is not impossible that this option will be presented in the future.
For the specifications of the refrigerator itself, the Samsung Family Hub has a volume of 681 liters and is equipped with SpaceMax Technology which can store food with hemp and last longer. This refrigerator also has digital inverter technology which makes it work more efficiently and is quieter than other refrigerators.
