Samsung Sued For Launching Product Without Permission

Samsung Electronics has just been sued for patent infringement in the United States. This lawsuit has also been reported by Patent Troll Europe.

Reported by us from Gizmochina, Wednesday (16/1/2022) according to a BusinessKorea report, this lawsuit was filed by Dublin-based Scramoge Technology which is a non-practicing entity (NPE).

The company filed for patent infringement against the South Korean tech giant with the US District Court in Texas earlier this month.

Scramoge Technology alleges that Samsung has launched a new product using unlicensed wireless charging technology. This news comes after NPE purchased 123 patents related to wireless charging from LG Innotek in 2021.

Patent troll is a derogatory term used to describe businesses that use patents and the court system to make money. In other words, Scramoge Technology used a patent it obtained from LG Innotek to sue Samsung.

Previously, a similar lawsuit was filed against the South Korean brand in April 2021 and another in August 2021. The legal dispute relates to the alleged infringement of the company's newly launched Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Z Fold3 foldable phones.

Now, Scramoge Technology is claiming that Samsung is infringing on seven of its wireless charging patents, which cover short-range communication antenna solutions as well.

Furthermore, NPE has also filed for damages for claiming that the well-known consumer electronics maker caused harm to its business by selling its patented products in the US.

Until now, industry insiders believed that Samsung might face a tough legal battle, given that Scramoge Technology's parent company is Atlantic IP Services, apparently known as a notorious patent troll group.
