WD Blue SN570, a Fast, Cheap SSD Review


 There is an interesting product from Western Digital that was released at the end of 2021, namely the WD Blue SN570 NVMe. Why is it interesting? No, not because it is very fast, but because the price is relatively affordable.

This is because, usually SSD manufacturers prioritize the read or write speed that they carry as the "selling point" of their products. But of course not all users need that fast speed, or can afford to buy an SSD at a premium price.

Actually, the position of the SN570 is already visible from the naming and color, which is blue, aka blue. This color has always been a marker of affordable WD products, in contrast to Black which is positioned for professionals and gamers who need high speed.



The SN570 is a PCIe 3.0 TLC NAND based SSD, in M.2 2280 form (80mm in length). Oh yes, this affordable price is achieved by not using dynamic random access memory (DRAM), which is commonly found in SSDs with higher prices.


The review unit we received had a capacity of 1TB, and was promised to have read and write speeds of 3,500 MB/s and 3,000 MB/s. This speed is significantly increased compared to its predecessor, the SN550, which read and write speeds of 2,400 MB/s and 1,950 MB/s.


This speed claim is relatively the same as the findings in our tests using CrystalDiskMark. The sequential read speeds are close to what WD claims, as are the write speeds.


With such performance, the price offered by WD for this SSD is certainly very attractive.
