In Apple's ecosystem, WhatsApp can only be used on iPhones and Mac computers either through the desktop application or via the web.
Rumor has it there is a discussion where WhatsApp will launch its application on iPad devices. This was conveyed by the Head of WhatsApp Will Chatcart where many users have long wanted the WhatsApp application on the iPad and WhatsApp also wants to make it happen.
According to him, many WhatsApp users have long been asking this company owned by Meta to make a decent application on the iPad.
Chatcart also hinted that WhatsApp had brought the underlying technology to the tablet version of whatsApp when they introduced support for multiple devices last year.
"We did a lot of work on the technology to support multiple devices. Our web and desktop apps now have it. If I enable multi-device, I can turn off my phone or lose my network connection and still receive messages on my desktop." he said.
"That would be very important for tablet apps, to be able to use apps even if your phone is off. So the underlying technology is there." he continued.
According to The Verge, historically WhatsApp's way of encrypting messages hasn't been able to sync chats across devices over the internet like most other messaging apps work. So, if WhatsApp on the user's phone does not have access to the internet, the desktop client does not work.
The beta version of multi-device support allows users to sync WhatsApp accounts on up to four devices at once, a process that involves mapping device identifiers to account keys on WhatsApp servers in an encrypted way.
Thus, with the synchronization technology, it is likely that the original WhatsApp application for the iPad will be presented soon.
