Alienware Makes a QD-OLED Gaming Monitor, the Price is Tempting

Alienware will release a 34-inch ultrawide gaming monitor that uses a new panel from Samsung called Quantum Dot. The price is attractive...

Alienware announced the release of this new monitor through its Twitter account. Although in fact the monitor with the code AW3423DW was the first to be exhibited at the CES 2022 event.

The most interesting aspect of this monitor is its price, which is "only" USD 1,299 . The price is definitely not cheap for a monitor, but for a monitor that uses an OLED panel, this price is very tempting.

In comparison, the LG 32-inch Ultrafine UHD OLED (not a gaming monitor) retails for $3,999. Meanwhile, the Alienware 55-inch OLED gaming monitor costs USD 2,719.

We're excited to announce that the Alienware 34 QD-OLED Gaming Display will arrive early this Spring for $1,299 USD.

So for an ultrawide monitor with a high refresh rate, the AW3423DW which is sold for less than USD 2000 is an attractive monitor, as quoted by The Verge, Monday (14/2/2022).

This QD-OLED monitor has all the advantages of an OLED-paneled monitor or TV. Namely a very deep black color and a high level of contrast. However, when compared to ordinary OLED panels, QD-OLED also has advantages from Quantum Dot technology, such as much higher brightness levels and brighter colors.

Regarding specifications, this monitor from Dell is claimed to have a DCI-P3 color coverage of 99.3%. The resolution is 3,440 x 1,400 pixels, the refresh rate is 175Hz, and the normal brightness level is 250 nits and the maximum is 1000 nits. The response time is 0.1ms and it also supports Nvidia G-Sync Ultimate.

The curvature of this Alienware 34 QD-OLED Gaming Display is 1800R. Unfortunately, this monitor is not equipped with HDMI 2.1, only DisplayPort (the main connection) and HDMI 2.0 with a maximum refresh rate of 100Hz. As a result, the maximum resolution and refresh rate of the Xbox Series X and PS5 are not supported.

But that's natural, because the two consoles -- at least until now -- don't support a 21:9 ultrawide screen ratio, only 16:9 like most televisions today.

Oh yes, the price of USD 1,299 for this Alienware monitor can also be a benchmark for other products that use QD-OLED panels, which Samsung has just showcased.
