Artificial intelligence aka artificial intelligence (AI) is getting more sophisticated from day to day. Can an era like the Terminator movies where AI rebel against humans ever happen?
For now, those concerns are unfounded. However, scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) warn that the development of AI should not be underestimated, including the possibility that they have self-awareness and can act on their own.
Initially, Ilya Sutskever, the chief scientist at OpenAI, the artificial intelligence research institute founded by Elon Musk, tweeted that some of the big AI networks might already have a little awareness of their own.
However, some other scientists criticized the tweet and even considered it damaging to AI's reputation. Well, as quoted by us from Futrusim, Ilya got a defense from the MIT computer scientist, Tamay Besiroglu.
"Seeing so many scientists demonize their ideas is disappointing. It makes me doubt the ability of people in this field to take seriously the important questions they will undoubtedly face in the next few decades," he said.
For now, Tamay admits that he has not been able to clearly distinguish what kind of AI does not yet have its own awareness and one that already has a little awareness like what Ilya called.
However, this does not mean that Ilya's claims deserve to be underestimated. "I really think that it could be something meaningful that shouldn't be overlooked," he added.
Most scientists do believe that AI will be of great benefit and will not cause harm. But some famous figures like Elon Musk have repeatedly warned people to be wary of increasingly sophisticated artificial intelligence technology.
