The news of changing the name Bangkok to Krung Thep Maha Nakhon is buzzing on social media. The world's netizens were in an uproar. It all started when The Royal Academy revised from 'Krung Thep Maha Nakhon;Bangkok' to 'Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (Bangkok).
Various opinions of world netizens were also written in a tweet on Twitter. Not only from Thailand, netizens from the world also voiced their heads, as well as from other countries. Understandably, Bangkok is a tourist destination that has long been famous.
"Bangkok is just a nickname, actually it's Krung Thep Mahanakhon," wrote @tatzle.
It's not difficult. We call our city Krung Thep. That's still two syllables. Bangkok was the area east of the Chao Phaya river, now separated into Bangkok-Noi and Bangkok-Yai. The name likely came from elevated land banks in the river leading to the name 'Bangkoh' ( Koh= island)

BTW, after fierce debate late last night, the Royal Academy says we can still use #Bangkok interchangeably with Krung Thep Maha Nakhon as the capital of #Thailand in English. That's even more perplexing. Welcome to Bangkok Krung Thep Maha Nakhon folks! #WhatsHappeningInThailand pic.twitter.com/EZTnaXub7n

Bangkok changed name? It doesn't change, the real name is Krung Thep Maha Nakhon ..... the long one.
When they talk in Thai, they almost never mention Bangkok, it's often "Krung Thep"

"This is why the Bangkok scene changed its name. The feeling from when I was in school was that Bangkok's real name was Krungthep, it was even longer, my long name just lost," said @jampirojam.
Although there is conflicting information regarding this, The Royal Academy said that Bangkok is still used for use in English. Krung Thep Maha Nakhon itself is indeed a name used daily by native Thais to refer to Bangkok.
It is known that the Thai government cabinet, on Tuesday (15/2) local time, approved a draft announcement by the Prime Minister's Office regarding the renewal of the names of countries, regions, administrative zones and capital cities, as proposed by ORST.
The new official name, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, will not be effective until it is examined by the commission tasked with examining all proposed bills. The Cabinet also asked the panel to consider additional observations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
