In September, Twitter launched an experimental label feature for automated accounts or bots that would make it easier for users to identify these accounts.
The experiment also seemed to work, as Twitter allowed developers to add labels to its bot accounts.
Specifically, Twitter spokeswoman Celeste Carswell said labels are available for bot accounts created by developers using the Twitter API and account owners should choose to apply labels to their accounts.
"While the launch is slightly delayed from Twitter's previous promise to allow developers to use the label by the end of 2021, I hope this will be welcome news for those who manage bot accounts," Carswell said as quoted by The Verge.
Unfortunately, it's not hard to imagine potential bot accounts being used for malicious things. However, Carswell said bot accounts are subject to Twitter's bot account policies and Twitter's overall rules.
Twitter will not audit accounts that choose to apply the new label although people can report accounts they think may be violating the rules.
In addition, Twitter is also working on a label to remember people who have died. The label was supposed to launch in 2021, but it hasn't been available yet. Unfortunately Twitter refuses to provide more detailed information regarding this.
