Astronauts from the Zhenzhou-13 mission celebrate Chinese New Year 2022 from space, at the Tiangong Space Station, about 400 km above Earth.
The astronauts -- or taikonauts -- are on a six-month mission. Even though they are in a narrow space with zero gravity, the astronauts still maintain their tradition by celebrating the Spring Festival, or spring festival.
The three astronauts on the mission were Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping, and dean Ye Guangfu.
From the video released by China Media Group, the Astronauts have decorated the China Space Station with balloons and red paper decorations with various writings, which more or less means that happiness has come.
Zhai Zhigang, an astronaut from the China Astronaut Research and Training Center, shows off his red paper decoration in the video. He also wished everyone a happy new year, and wished everyone the best of health and fortune in this Year of the Tiger.
Not only that, the Chinese astronauts also did things that are commonly done by Chinese citizens during the New Year, namely eating three kinds of dumplings -- a kind of dumpling filled with meat -- for dinner.
Likewise with another tradition that is often carried out by Chinese citizens on Earth, namely watching the Spring Festival Gala TV show, as quoted by us from the Global Times, Tuesday (1/2/2022).
