Garmin has just released two of its newest premium smartwatch lines on the market, namely the Fenix 7 series and Epix (Gen 2). Both are priced at a fantastic price.
Garmin Fenix 7 series and Garmin Epix are intended for users who like extreme sports outdoors. Both promise a longer battery life and a tougher body. The following are the features and specifications that they bring.
Garmin Fenix 7 series
Garmin Fenix 7 series comes in four variants. There are Fenix 7, Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar, Fenix 7S Sapphire Solar, and Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar. The main difference between the four is in screen size, with the Fenix 7S having the smallest screen (1.2 inches) and the Fenix 7X having the largest screen (1.4 inches).
This smart watch carries Power Sapphire technology which combines a sapphire crystal with a solar panel which not only makes the screen scratch resistant but also absorbs sunlight optimally to recharge the watch.
Garmin claims this new technology makes the Fenix 7X Solar battery three times more durable than the Fenix 6X Pro Solar. If in GPS mode, the Fenix 7X Solar can last up to 122 hours, and up to 37 days in smartwatch mode.
This smartwatch is also designed as a tough device and has pocketed the MIL-STD-810 certification. Garmin Fenix 7 has been tested in high altitude environments with low pressure, extreme temperature environments, and is resistant to shock, rain and dust.
"We tested it very thoroughly so that Fenix can become the most reliable tool for adventurers," said Garmin Asia Product Manager Josh Tai at the launch of the Garmin Fenix 7 and Garmin Epix, Thursday (17/2/2022).
To support users exercising, the Garmin Fenix 7 is equipped with 40 outdoor sports modes, including mountaineering, trail running, windsurfing, and others. The support of three navigation systems (GPS, GLONASS and Galileo) can provide more accurate tracking in challenging environments.
Garmin Fenix 7 series can be controlled with a touch screen and buttons. Especially for the Fenix 7X Solar, there is a flash feature that can be used as an SOS signal and increase visibility when exercising at night.
A series of embedded sports features include Real-Time Stamina, Up Ahead, Finish Time, and Pulse Ox. There are also other complementary features such as ABC sensors (altimeter, barometer, compass), map information, accident detection, smart notifications, and access to the Connect IQ app store.
Garmin Epix (Gen 2)
Then there's the Garmin Epix (Gen 2), their first outdoor series smartwatch that carries an AMOLED screen. The screen size itself is 1.3 inches and supports always-on display.
The Garmin Epix also comes with support for 40 sports, with special support for skiing and golf. The sports and health features brought include Pulse Ox, Stress Tracking, Sleep Score, Garmin Coach, Real-Time Stamina, VO2 Max, and many more.
Although not equipped with solar charging, Garmin guarantees this smartwatch will still have a long battery life. Garmin Epix is claimed to last up to 16 days in smartwatch mode and up to 21 days with battery saver mode.
Just like the Fenix 7 line, Garmin Epix can also be controlled with a touch screen and available buttons. This smartwatch supports three navigation systems (GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo), ABC sensors, TopoActive maps, and special features to help with hiking, golf and skiing.
Other complementary features include smart notifications, music apps from Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer, security features, and Connect IQ app store support.
