Google's parent Alphabet publishes its 2021 financial report, which shows that the COVID-19 pandemic has made Google's revenue soar, reaching USD 257 billion.
Compared to their income during 2020 which was 'only' USD 183 billion, their income in 2021 means an increase of 41%. Meanwhile, their revenue in Q4 2021 was USD 75.3 billion, up 32% year over year.
"Our advertising business growth was very strong in Q4, which helped millions of businesses to thrive and find new customers, and sales of our Pixel phones were hampered by component supply and our Cloud business also grew strongly," the CEOs of Google and Alphabet said in a statement.
Along with the publication of this financial report, Google also announced that it would conduct a stock split or split its shares at a ratio of 20 to 1, which will take effect in July.
There are several interesting things from Alphabet's financial statements this time. The first is a record, because they finally broke through to the amount of revenue of USD 200 billion, after 2017 their income was stuck in the hundreds of billions of dollars. Alphabet's revenue in 2021 is three times its revenue in 2016.
Then another interesting thing is that Alphabet usually doesn't disclose the amount of revenue from devices such as the Pixel, Nest, or the Android operating system. They usually just put it together in the 'Google Other' section. which is under 'Google Services'.
The problem is that these services also include YouTube and Search, Google's two big-time champions when it comes to revenue. But now they reveal that the 'Google other' category generated USD 8.16 billion in revenue in Q4 2021.
Google's revenue from its ad business totaled USD 61.24 billion in Q4 2021, and they have been less affected by iOS' new app tracking rules that had a huge impact on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and YouTube, which lost nearly $10 billion in revenue in mid second 2021.
Google can survive this rule because they have their own search and YouTube traffic data, as quoted by us from The Verge, Thursday (3/2/2022).
