Google Account Theft Cases Drop 50% Thanks To This Feature

Google and Safer Internet Day publish reports on the security of user data, and some of Google's initiatives to improve that security.

One of them is Google's collaboration with Khan Academy, where Google will provide funds of USD 5 million to create online security content for 18 million Khan Academy users worldwide.

This step was taken by Google because searches with the keyword "how to stop identity theft" have doubled during 2021, as quoted by GSM Arena, Wednesday (9/2/2022).

Last October 2021, there were more than 150 million Google users whose two factor authentication (2FA) was turned on automatically. Through this feature, users will be notified when their account is logged in on a new device, and will need to verify that login via another device.

According to Google, since this feature was enabled they have seen a 50% reduction in account hacks.
