After long rumors, Rockstar Games has finally opened up about GTA 6. They confirmed that a new Grand Theft Auto game is in development.
"Given GTAV's immeasurable longevity, we know many of you have been asking us about this new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series," Rockstar Games said in its latest update, as quoted by IGN, Sunday (6/2/2022).
"With every new project we work on, our goal has always been to significantly exceed what we've delivered previously -- and we're happy to inform you that active development for the next Grand Theft Auto entry is underway."
Interestingly, Rockstar Games did not openly write the name of GTA 6 in the update, they just called it the next GTA game. But if you look at the trend of the five games in the previous GTA series, it seems not impossible that they will use the name GTA 6.
Rockstar Games has not provided any additional information about this long-awaited game. They closed the update by saying that further information will be shared as soon as everything is ready.
Previous leaks said the initial version of GTA 6 will be smaller than GTA 5, with updates to be rolled out gradually. Other rumors say this game will return to the background in the style of Vice City.
Previously, several foreign media reported that GTA 6 had been in development since 2020, but would not be released in the near future. Recent reports say the game is likely to be released in 2024 or 2025.
The distance between GTA 5 and GTA 6 which is very far seems to have made fans very impatient. There are fans who think Rockstar inserted a leak about GTA 6 in the remastered version of the GTA trilogy, to fans who interrupt a TV show to ask for GTA 6.
This will be the first modern GTA game to be released since Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser left the company in 2020. Houser helped write all of the GTA games from series 2 to 5, as well as a number of other Rockstar games.
