How To Know A Photo Has A Sight Or Just An Optical Illusion

Under certain conditions, subtle beings can indeed be caught on camera. Not surprisingly, on social media often circulate photos that are claimed to be "sightings". But how do we know if the photo is really an apparition or just an optical illusion?

Mickey Oxcygentri, Founder Ghost Photography Community (GPC) while live streaming Eureka! with the theme "Ghost Photography", Monday (21/2) mentioned, EXIF data is needed to determine a photo "haunted" or not, and a comparison of the same photo.

"If there is EXIF data, and there are comparison photos, there is a comparison of frames, it can be determined whether there is a figure of an astral being or not in the photo. If it turns out it's editing or engineering, just looking at EXIF data is easy. he entered (edited) into Photoshop his EXIF will be lost, discovered, "said Mickey.

In photography, EXIF (Exchangeable Image File) is digital data that is usually embedded in a photo or image generated from a digital device, such as a digital camera or scanner. All digital cameras include cell phone, mirrorless, or DSLR cameras.

Therefore, in the GPC community, "ghost hunting teams" are taught to use the method of photographing multiple times in one location where there is a suspected sighting. The goal is to have a comparison of frames when the figure of an alleged astral being is found.

"In ghost photography, one photo must have more than two frames to compare. When there is an awkwardness in the next frames, but in the other frame it is empty, there is nothing awkward, then it can be said to be an appearance. But if in in the next frame there is another figure, by changing position, it could be an animal or an optical illusion. Because the ghost will not be on standby for a few minutes, "he said.

For ordinary people who do not have a sixth sense, said a photography lecturer at the University of Singapore, Karawang, we are only guided by feeling. Therefore, taking several frames in one photo spot is the simplest method to determine whether an original photo displays the appearance of a subtle being or not.

Karawang GPC Chairman Aldi Mutiara who is also a Eureka speaker! added, it is also important to follow the feeling when photographing ghosts.

"If there is a spot that if we don't feel good. I want to look at it straight away, it looks like something is awkward, we take portraits several times in that spot so that there will be a comparison later," he concluded.
