The founder of Facebook (now Meta) Mark Zuckerberg said that there was an update that would let someone get a notification if a 'disappearing message' is in a screenshot. This follows the introduction of an update on the site's 'vanish mode' which means new messages will disappear within 12 hours when activated.
"Latest update to end-to-end encrypted chat in Messenger so you'll get a notification when someone catches the screen of a disappearing message," the CEO wrote on Facebook.
"We're also adding GIFs, stickers and reactions to encrypted messages."
In the screenshot accompanying the announcement, Zuckerberg pointed out that when the disappearing message setting is enabled, you will be notified with the message '(Facebook username] took a screenshot'.
Users who replied to this post mostly welcomed the new feature, only a few who called it the 'snitch' feature. Netizens also wrote some of their opinions as extracted from IFL Science.
"Now we will use another phone to take photos instead of screenshots," wrote one netizen.
The ss chat notification feature on Facebook is widely available in the United States and will be rolled out across Europe in the next few weeks.
