Intel released its 12th generation Alder Lake processor at CES 2022, but that's only the H series for heavyweight laptops. Now they have finally released a line of P and U series processors for thin and light laptops, also cheap.
There are 20 new processors released by Intel, consisting of the P and U series with 15W thermal design power (TDP) and the U series with 9W TDP. While laptops with this processor are expected to be available in March.
Just like Alder Lake H series, and also Alder Lake for desktop, Alder Lake P and U series also have a much higher number of cores than the 11th generation processors released 2020. These cores also use a hybrid architecture, which combines fast and efficient cores. to maximize performance and battery life.
Intel also promises a big increase in the number of cores, with multi-thread performance that is claimed to be 70% higher than the 11th generation.
They also boast that these benchmark results are higher than the Apple M1 and M1 Pro, but not the M1 Max, also faster than the AMD Ryzen R7 5800U in activities such as browsing and photo processing.
"After the launch of our fastest mobile processor specifically for gaming, we are now expanding our lineup of 12th Gen Intel Core processors to deliver incredible performance leaps for thin-and-light laptops. From ultra-thin form factors to enthusiast-grade performance in sleek designs. , we deliver leading-edge performance and cutting-edge technology to consumers and businesses," Chris Walker, Intel corporate vice president and general manager of Mobility Client Platforms, said in a virtual media briefing held last Thursday (17/2/2022).
The fastest variant of the P series is the Core i7-1280P which has 14 cores (6 performance cores and 8 power efficient cores), similar to the number of cores in the H series variant, but of course with a lower TDP and speed.
Meanwhile in the U series, the number of cores is less than the P series. That is, only two performance cores in all series, with a total of six to 10 cores.
The integrated graphics card used is Iris Xe, and laptop makers can still add discrete graphics cards to combine with this Iris Xe. The Intel Alder Lake P and U series will also be part of the 3rd generation Intel Evo standard, namely laptops that meet certain requirements, including 1080p webcam, 6E WiFi, certain battery life, fast charging, and others.
The series of features in the Alder Lake P and U series include:
Latest core architecture up to 14 cores (6 P-cores and 8 E-cores).
Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics up to 96EU.
Extensive memory support for DDR5/LPDDR5 and DDR4/LPDDR4.
Incredible improvement with 70 percent faster multi-thread performance.
Improved 3D rendering almost doubled.
Superior productivity performance with photo editing capabilities that are 30 percent faster.
Integrated Intel Wi-Fi 6E (Gig+) for enhanced wireless performance, responsiveness, and reliability.
Thunderbolt 4
Intel IPU 6.0 for high image quality and power efficiency.
