Twitter has announced that it has expanded the beta testing of the Safe Mode feature, which was first launched in September 2021. This feature allows users to temporarily block accounts that send malicious or abusive tweets.
Previously the Safety Mode feature was available to about 750 beta users. Twitter spokeswoman Tatiana Britt said the feature has been extended to 50% of users in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand.
Twitter is also providing special prompts for a proactive Safety Mode that can help users identify potentially dangerous replies.
"Since the initial launch of the Safety Mode beta in September, we've known that some people want help identifying unwanted interactions," Britt said.
"For this reason, our technology will now proactively identify potentially malicious or uninvited replies, and ask people in beta to consider enabling Safety Mode. This update further reduces the burden on people dealing with unwanted interactions. " he continued.
It is hoped that this Twitter security feature will help reduce harassment on the platform. Unfortunately Twitter has not said when this feature will be rolled out more widely to the public.
