Uneasy, Twitter Tests Remove Tags from Other People's Tweets

On Twitter, our account names are often tagged/marked by someone for posts or threads that we don't like, especially if the post is being talked about. So uncomfortable right?

Well, because this tag makes notifications keep popping up every time there is a reply to a comment on the post. Thus Twitter reportedly has a new way to solve this problem.

Launching from The Verge, Wednesday (23/2/2022), writer and researcher Jane Manchun Wong took to her Twitter account to share a screenshot of a new Twitter feature called "Leave This Conversation."

In his tweet, he explained that this feature can remove our name account tags from conversations on Twitter so as to prevent others from re-tagging / tagging our accounts into the conversation and stop notifications from appearing in those conversations.

This feature is different from "Mute This Conversation," an option to turn off notifications of threads that you are mentioned/tagged in.

The Leave This Conversation feature will make your Twitter tag appear as plain text in a post you're tagged in, instead of the hyperlink that users usually see if they tap the Twitter tag.

This step can discourage other users from engaging users in additional conversations and indirectly code you if you're no longer interested in participating.

Twitter has not confirmed whether it is actually testing the feature or not. However, Twitter continues to introduce subtle ways to control how other users engage with your account.

Many of Twitter's new features currently prioritize user privacy. Twitter recently introduced a feature that simplifies options for forcing other users to unfollow, as well as restricting replies and notifications when accounts with many followers retweet.
