When to Test for COVID-19? This is the answer according to science

Omicron variants are spreading in many countries. In the world, COVID-19 cases are on the rise again due to the surge in Omicron cases. So, when to get tested for COVID-19 and what are the factors that support it?

Launching the BC Center for Disease Control, as seen on Thursday (3/2/2022), there are signs or criteria that make someone have to do a COVID-19 test. Similar to other disease testing approaches, testing for COVID-19 is recommended when positive or negative results will inform decisions about treatment or care. This includes people who meet the following criteria:

There are symptoms of COVID-19

Being hospitalized (regardless of age)

Is pregnant

Are at risk for more severe disease and currently eligible for treatment

Living or working in a high-risk environment for severe illness

Close contact with people who are positive for COVID-19.

If you have mild symptoms of COVID-19, the BCCDC says you don't need to get tested. However, it is advised to stay at home and away from other people until you feel well enough to return to your usual activities.

Mild symptoms are symptoms that can be treated at home, but if you have a fever then it doesn't hurt to get tested.

Furthermore, if you don't have any symptoms of COVID-19, you don't need to get tested. It's different if you have just traveled out of town or abroad, then a COVID-19 test can be done. Many countries have also implemented rules to carry out PCR or antigen tests as a condition of travel.
