Open any window and resize it so you can still see new messages sent

Click in the new window and leave the cursor there. This is an important step, because the computer thinks you are working in a different window

The message will load in the WhatsApp chat window, which you can view but without being marked as read with a blue tick. The sender will think you have received the message, but not read it.
